78. Take August back from capitalism
Presence is preservation.
The shit we need to talk about this week: Take August back from capitalism.
Summer isn't ending now that August is here — but capitalism has us feeling - and believing - it is.
It has us rushing ahead, bracing for impossible schedules, and starting to live in September while we're still standing in August. And every time we do, we give a little more of ourselves, our energy, and our presence away to the future—missing so much of the goodness and sweetness summer has to offer us right now.
And maybe this all feels even harder in these upside-down times, when it feels like every time we turn around there is another horror to process. When there is so much pain, injustice, and uncertainty in the world, it can be hard to believe we’re allowed to experience sweetness, joy, or ease. The struggle is real ya’ll—but it is not all we get.
In this episode, we're talking about:
Why August carries so much dread—and why it doesn't have to.
Why the horrors of the world don't mean we have to give up our access to joy, sweetness, and being fully alive.
The hidden cost of deciding what's impossible before it even happens.
How capitalism teaches us to extract from every season instead of receiving its gifts.
Why savoring summer isn't frivolous—it’s how we resource ourselves for what's ahead.
How to stop tightening your grip and come back to the present.
Why joy, rest, and softness aren't distractions from liberation—they're part of how we sustain it.
The question that changes everything: What are we building, and how are we building it?
Capitalism asks us to live ahead of ourselves, extract from every season, and trade presence for productivity.
Presence isn't passive—it’s a way of preserving our energy, our humanity, and our capacity to keep building the world we want.
Jump in for all the goodness!
